Q&A Coding career w/o college degree?

Hi, all!

I got my CPC -A in July of last year and am on the job hunt. I am currently in school trying to earn my HIM degree (Associates) and was just wondering is it possible to still be able to get a good career w/o a 2 or 4 year degree? For instance, if I just got my other CPC credentials (CPC-H, CPC-I, CPB, etc.) while getting my degree. Do employers also give recognition to people who don't have degrees but have the knowledge through certifications?

Thanks!

I am going back to school to get an Associates Degree in medical coding and billing. According to my school rep, he said that employees are looking at two things: one is a degree and the other is certification. I don't how true it is, but I wanted to get an Associates degree in medical coding and billing. I got the hard part out of the way--getting my certification (CPC-A), but getting some experience is really hard. When I was with Aviacode doing the HCC Coding, I was almost a month away to dropping the "A." Unfortunately, that did not happen, but it can (and will) happen when I go into the externship portion of my program.
